A great quote from Mel Levine which supports my thinking is “Appreciating learning differences is the first step. Celebrating the differences is the goal”. When we celebrate that students learn differently and effectively accommodate for those differences, both the learner and the teacher experience success.

What a great quote, thank you. His book, The Myth of Laziness book raises some interesting questions about how we label children. Perhaps we can get him to do a presentation for our district.

Hi Elyse,
Happy Holidays!
A group of us from Spackenkill went to hear Mel Levine speak last year in NYC at a conference sponsored by PBS. He was as remarkable a speaker as he is an author. I would love for him to come to Spackenkill and I can certainly pass this on to the appropriate folks for consideration. His website speaks of schools with whom he is working and I’d love to be part of that elite group!
Thanks for your comments!

Are you referring to the Schools Attuned Program? I am hoping that the district can purchase some of his books on tape or perhaps an audio CD of his presentation. Please keep me posted if there are any district-wide opportunities to hear him speak.

Hi Elyse,
Yes, his program for schools is the Schools Auttned Program. If I am able to find make available any opportunities to hear Mel Levine speak, I will certainly keep you informed. It would be such an amazing opportunity.
